Emily Johnston Bain was an American mother, housewife, teacher and, in parallel, an award-winning artist who worked in oil, watercolor and sculpture. Mrs. Bain held an M.A. in Art and Education from Louisiana State University and an M.A. in English from Tulane University. Post-graduate art work was done at the Universities of Texas and Colorado. She maintained her artistic career while serving as State Supervisor of Art in Louisiana, and teaching art in colleges and schools in Louisiana and Texas. Mrs. Bain is listed in “Directory of American Portrait Artists” (1985) and the online “CLARA: Database of Women Artists”. For some time Mrs. Bain lived in Hawaii where her husband, Dr. Herbert Weaver, was professor and chair of the University of Hawaii’s Department of Psychology. After their divorce she returned to the mainland. Emily J. Bain died on September 26, 2004 at the age of 93. Her last known residence was at Grand Prairie, Dallas County, Texas.
