Herman C. Thiem - Painter

Herman C. Thiem (1870 – 1928)

Herman C. Thiem was born on November 21, 1870 in Rochester, New York where he lived his entire life. He was a painter, architect and illustrator. He studied at the Mechanic’s Institute and privately with Seth Jones and Carl M. Raschen. The subjects for his paintings were landscapes, lake scenes, buildings, marines, nautical and boats. Thiem was a member of and exhibited with the Rochester Art Club; he served as President of the Club for three terms of office from 1922 until 1925. In addition he was a member of the Picture Painters’ Club.

Thiem married Barbara Altpeter (1872 – 1953) in 1894. He died in 1928 and is interred in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Rochester, New York. Barbara A. Thiem who died in 1953 rests there as well.
